Photos from the trip were posted online by Broward School District 3 School Board Member and high school teacher Sarah Leonardi, who helped chaperone the trip to the restaurant that features items like the “Left One” chicken breast sandwich, the "Booty Call," the “Miley High Club” and the “Young Ranch Hand.” The diner/bar - which has since complained about being labeled a "gay bar" - is reportedly known as a local hangout for LGBTQ customers, which apparently make up the vast majority of the restaurant's clientele. Parents were livid after finding out their kids, students at Wilton Manors Elementary School, were taken on a field trip to Rosie’s Bar and Grill, a local eatery that caters to the LGBTQ-LMNOP community and includes a number of.let's just say, maturely nick-named menu items. Which, apparently, one teacher in Broward County, Florida, entirely missed.
Now imagine that, instead of one of these perfectly acceptable choices for prepubescent youth, you decide to take them to….a gay bar.Ĭan’t imagine that? Good – that likely means you were in line the day they handed out shreds of sanity. Options might include the zoo, a children’s museum, perhaps a science center. Now imagine you’re tasked with taking your class on a couple of field trips each year.
Your students range in age from, say, 5 years old in kindergarten and 10 years old – maybe 11 – by the end of fifth grade. Imagine this: you’re an elementary teacher.
